Week One: Happy 4th!
Happy 4th of July!
Unlike many years in the past on this summer holiday, I have no plans for going to an amusement park. I mention it because it does make me a bit sad; however, I won't be staying at home this year. Mom, Dennis, and I will be going over to my youngest brother's house for a cookout.
For our part of the cookout, we decided to put together one of my favorites - "Bean-n-Bacon Cole Slaw". This was a recipe that I submitted to a fund-raiser cookbook. Each time I've made a recipe from the book, I've created crazy pictures. There's the bowl of cole slaw

This is a sampling of the posed pictures that I took of myself.
Here's the final picture of
mikie and the cole slaw

Sneaking Over to Visit the Big Back Yard
The other day, as I was out reading my the pool, I was surprised to see a visitor to the "big backyard". I guess I didn't latch the gate enough, so Aries was able to sneak over and sniff around.

Aries is smart but couldn't figure out why this doggie door didn't go into our bedroom.
He must have thought all the doggie doors led to the same place. LOL

Week Two:
Like Flat Stanley
You might know who Flat Stanley is. He's a paper doll that people have been taking to places all over the world. Using that idea, my friend Bill, make me some cutout letters of H-I-V. So I've been taking the letters around and taking pictures of them in different locations.

I've got a plan for these letters in the end. The SECOND annual World AIDS Day video competition by Catawba Care will be coming up this December. I'm going to use these pictures as the background for several short vids with information about the myths of HIV. I'll keep you informed when I put those together and get them posted on youtube.

A NEW Pool
(well, new to me LOL)
We've been looking for a "new" pool on craigslist; but the pickings have been slim. Finally though, this pool, which is the next size down from the one I had, came up at a decent price.

My friend, Larry, drove us up past Kings Mountain (that lump there in the background) to get the pool.
Luckily it all just fit into his hatchback. I was lucky to get a ground cover, tarp, pump, chemicals and all the piecey-parts for the entire setup.
Larry helped me get everything into the backyard and we started setting it up.
Wave "Hey!" to the camera, Larry.
Within just a couple of hours, it was already looking like a pool!
Just two days later, it was filled and I was in swimming again,
a month after my previous pool exploded into the tsunami across the backyard.
And just in time too!
Boy, is it ever HOT here in the Carolinas. Every day is at least in the upper 90's.

As you can see, I'm loving the pool!

Week Three:
My Garden
Everything is green and growing!
Yeah! Last year I hardly had any tomatoes;
but this year I've got some and they're going to be ready to eat soon.

Week Four:
Summer Flowers!
Gladiolas in the front yard.
The Butterfly Bush
