I have been in the mental health industry for the past six months, working with the homeless population in Stark County, as part of the "Home At Last" program (through Nova Behavioral Health, Inc.). I have had an excellent working relationship with the many different agencies that provided services to my clients (including The Salvation Army, Pyramid Training Services, ICAN, YM/YWCA as well as the local hot meal sites and food banks). I have engaged with numerous people, many of which eventually became Nova clients. I am also a former Nova client, when it was still Central Mental Health, and was diagnosed in 1993 with severe depression, for which I was on medication for 4 years. I have found that my own personal experience has been very helpful when relating to clients, because the clients can see that someone can empathize with their individual situations.
Throughout the last decade, I have, as a single parent, also been raising my two children; attended Kent State University, from which I graduated with honors; and volunteered in many community projects, including being a parent volunteer for my children's soccer team, marching with them in the Jr. Hall of Fame Kick-Off Parade, assisting with the children's lunch program, and being a member of my children's school PTO.
