Week One  |  Week Two  |  Week Three  |  Week Four
Week One:

Sorry that this update has taken a while to get to (it's already the 11th). My reigningpages.com domain is on a server in Georgia. The bill has always been on Jodi's credit card. I tried to contact Jodi several times over the past two months, to find out when I could pay her to keep our domain online. Unfortunately, she never returned my emails or calls, and reigningpages.com was offline for a few days. Fortunately, after Jim helped me get back online, my server was replaced with a new machine. WooHoo! The delay and email problems were worth it to have a new server!

Vacation Time!

I had a really big vacation this past week. First, I spent 5 days with my family in NC and SC. After so many years of never getting home, I've been very blessed to have been able to go back home three times within the last year (July 2001 - December 2001 - July 2002). Then, after a short day back home, I re-packed some clothes and Jim and I headed down to Cincinnati, OH to visit Kings Island Amusement Park. WooHoo!

The HollyHocks
are finally starting to bloom!

I'm not certain what these flowers are (xerathemum?); but I planted these in the back yard.
The morning glories are going wild!
(I got these last year from Meredith at Waikem's.)

Gayle Theiss (from Waikem Auto Group) got another mask for me. Why? Because she likes me and she's a good lady! :D VBG very big grin
Thanks again, Gayle!

Week Two:

Another Summer Project

Every summer, Jim and I get some project to work on. Our latest project was not as huge as screening-in my porch, or re-cementing Jim's patio; but it still took several days to complete.
While living in this house for the past nine years, I've only had next-door neighbors for 1 year of that time. Several months ago, I finally got some neighbors and immediately started having problems. There are several small children next door (somewhere in the 2-4 year old age), who have a problem staying off my property. It wouldn't be so bad, except they keep taking the decorative rocks, from around my small pool and fountain in the front yard, and throwing them into the pool. And that wouldn't be sooo bad, except I've had to replace the fountain pump twice, after they smashed it with the rocks.
Before leaving on my vacation, I came up with a plan to solve this problem - a plan to cement the entire pool and cement the rocks into place!

The Finished Fountain

Some history of the fountain

Randy and I moved into this house on March 31, 1993, one month after we had been burgalarized at our previous home. Since we are buying this house, we decided, that May, to do some yard work. We planted "Hershey-Red" azaleas beside the porch (we chose that color only because the name "Hershey" was the name of one of our spaniels), and, for me, Randy planted a dogwood tree in the small corner portion of the front yard. By the end of the month, all those plants had died and we were left with a large hole in the yard, where the tree had been. For about $7, I bought a small blue plastic child's swimming pool, and with a left-over water pump from out defunct pet store, I created a small fountain in that hole. Our friend, Cheryl, donated a bunch of slate shingles that we laid around the fountain and pansies that we planted. We pitched in the nine cents change (from the pool purchase) and made wishes for a happy life, not knowing that the following May, Randy would be spending his last days sitting on the porch enjoying the gentle splashing of our fountain.

Through several years (and several pools!), I kept the fountain going; after each cleaning, solemnly casting the pennies back in, making wishes that couldn't be filled. Finally, it came time to replace the pump, so I purchased a pump and liner kit to create a more permanent fountain. Now after nine years, it's about time that I have really made this fountain permanent.

MCB - JP '02 - RCR '93

I'd like to thank Jim once again for his help with this project. I didn't really tell him about the attachment that I have with Randy and this fountain, until we had finished; but it felt right having my best friend, of all my years without Randy, be the one to help me.

Week Three:

The middle of July is here, and this summer has been excellent so far. Plenty of sun and heat has guarenteed a ton of pool-time. Hey! There's so much damned Winter up here, that I don't feel ANY guilt sucking up as much pool time (not pool WATER!) as possible. In just another couple of months, I'll be shoveling the snow from the sidewalks again; but my desktop wallpaper will be an nice inviting shot of the pool. ;) wink, wink

I HAD been working on a website for a new client (the girlfriend of my boss); but she blew me off. Every time I've ever started a site with a client, it's been hell trying to get past the "look" of the project. For some reason, they never want to see the content, just the pretty buttons and such. And I'm bound and determined that content is what matters and that graphics should be created last NOT first. Oh well, it's her loss. (As of 7/17, her site was still "under construction"! ROFL) But I haven't let her narrow-mindedness slow me up, instead I devoted my energy to putting a website up for my youngest brother's company (Maintenance Man - www.reigningpages.com/mman) and have started working on a site for my other brother!

Cliff - the Birthday Boy!A day I thought would NOT come, arrived, with a party, this Wednesday - Cliff turned another year older!! Yeppers, the man that the doctors all thought would die back in February/March was standing, walking, eating and drinking at his 54th birthday party!

Giving the parents some time of peace and quiet, and time to get the cookout all together, Jim and I took a batch of kids (Kerrie, Kayle, and Audrey) over to Jim's house for (what else?) the pool!! :D VBG very big grin

Playing with Dolph LungrenThat's "Dolph Lungren" the girls are trying to ride. ;) wink, wink Their attempts were as bad as mine and Jim's were :D VBG very big grin.
Chillin' in "Gilligan's Island" (this raft is sooo big, it's like an island in the pool - and thus it's name.)Chillin' in Gilligan's Island

Special Thanks to the Ladies who put the party together!

A Friendly Game
Adults vs. the kids!

A Friendly Game - Adults vs. the kids!
After all the birthday cake, the kids (and some of the adults!!) were wired up and a friendly challenge was issued. The kids took on the adults for a little bit of volleyball over the clothes line. No injuries were sustained (WooHoo!); the grill was only hit once; and Cliff nearly joined the game when he got bonked by a stray ball. ;) wink, wink

Week Four:

Summer Pool Party

Watch the SlideShow of our recent pool party

Some of my Cat friends

Even though I have always had dogs and don't really understand the feline mindset, I do have several cat friends.

Snow (aka Snowball, Snowy)
is one of the two cats
over at DO's and Cliff's.
Here I am teasing Jim's three cats with some bamboo. (Sarek not pictured here)

Another Summer Project

Sometimes it feels like all Jim and I do all summer are projects - because every week we DO do another project! :D VBG very big grin This week the project de jeur was at Jim's place. We mounted the solar heater for the pool up on his porch roof. With any luck, we'll be swimming into October!;) wink, wink

A beautiful ending to a beautiful month
